Acer palmatum ‘Akane’
Well drained neutral/acid
This is a delightful, slow growing, compact, semi-dwarf tree. As the leaves emerge they are a striking orange gold, with the margins shading into a deep pink. These colours are long-lasting and gradually turn a deep clear yellow, eventually becoming light green. The leaves are small, usually five lobed, but sometimes seven, usually longer than broad.
’Akane’ means “the madder plant” but also has become to mean “the glowing evening sky” which suits it perfectly.
