About Acers
Acer Palmatum, part of the genus Acer, are a variety of trees and shrubs commonly known as Japanese Maples. With many 100’s of cultivars, these elegant trees are easily recognisable by their distinctive leaf shape.
Originally named for the hand-like shape of their leaves, Japanese Maples are an excellent focal point in both large and small gardens, and are available in a variety of sizes, shapes and spectacular colours.
The majority of varieties are suitable for growing in a border or a container, larger specimens make a breath-taking centrepiece particularly in spring and autumn when there leaves offer a multitude of colours.

Many acers are slow growing and compact, making them an excellent choice for smaller gardens.
Japanese Maples like a well drained, neutral to acid soil, though it should be born in mind that the different situations will affect the final size of your tree.
